Lots of people say that when they were pregnant, they didn't have cravings.

I am not one of those people

But I can see where they are coming from.

The word craving seems a little strong

These days I am having strong aversions to certain foods, and preferences to others.

For example:

Aversions:

Hamburger

Spicy foods

Left overs

Plain Water

Preferences:

Pineapple

Strawberries

Carrots and Celery dipped in ranch

Cafe Rio Salads

Spaghetti with only parmesan and butter

Crucial Foods:

Saltines

Toast

Flavored Water

Food is the most fascinating thing to me right now. So weird.

I have had the sesame street theme song in my head all day long.

It must have something to do with the freezing cold cow smelling air

I keep having flashback memories to my family's trip to california last spring,

and gotta say, I'm loving the idea of some warm weather!

Oh but here I go talking about the weather again...

Down to the juicy stuff:

1. Our apartment is cute and little and has a pole in the middle of it, and once I have it all unpacked, I will take a picture of it

2. We live 1/2 a block away from campus, and it's so nice!

3. Jase and I are in three classes (if you include institute, which I do) together, and it's kind of funny watching him in class... it's just weird actually seeing my husband being a student!

4. Its very weird going to class and hearing that the people around me were born in 1993.

Man, I'm old.

5. Just in case you were wondering... Cache Valley still smells like Cache Valley.

Friday night, Jase and I ran to maceys to grab some treats for a movie date night. We missed the turn we usually take to get there, and had to drive to the far side of the parking lot to get there. As we were pulling in, we saw the most beautiful sight. There, sitting on the corner, was a homeless man. He was dirty, and had all of his personal belongings there on the sidewalk next to him. But on the other side of him, was a young man, with one hand holding the Book of Mormon, and the other around the homeless man, reading to him. They seemed to be in their own world, and I feel so blessed to be able to have witnessed the scene. I don't know either of them, but It inspired me to want to be more like that young man. I know that if I open my schedule for him, the savior will help me find time to bless other's lives with his gospel. I don't think it was a chance thing that We were able to see this scene. Recently, as I was going to study my scriptures, I opened right to Mormon 8:39. Maybe the lord is trying to tell me something... All I know is that I am awfully excited to be less focused on me, and more focused on how I can help others. The lord, I am sure, can move mountains through me if I let him.

So a week or so ago, my funny brother-in-law, Nate, was telling me a story about a guy at his work who got written up for picking his nose. (Nathan is a chef up at the Sundance resort.) The way they knew he picked his nose was that he got a jalopeneo (I don't know how to spell that) burn up his nose after he had just chopped some of the little peppers up...

I laughed.

Fast forward to yesterday...

I decided to make salsa. Yes. Salsa. You know where this is going.

I realized that I had all of the ingredients for it (thanks to my awesome mother-in-law and her luscious garden), except for jalopeneos... actually I remembered that I needed those after thinking about Nate's funny story.

So I go to the grocery store. Grabbed a little jalopeneo and jot back home. The whole time I am thinking to myself that I really should remember to not touch my face after I chop up the little, harmless looking pepper.

True to my form, I did end up sub-counciously scratching the inside of my nose. It was very gradual, but it surely did start burning. I tried to wash it off, but it got worse, and spread to my upper lip. (Jason was a very good husband, and for the most part kept his cool, and didn't laugh)

Google is actually what came to the rescue! (I was a little too embarrassed to call Nate... haha!) I googled what to do when you have a jalopeneo burn up your nose... and they said to snort milk (Which I thought was a little un-ladylike. Instead I just soaked a cotton ball and shoved it up my nose. Pure heaven I tell you! But it didn't quite take care of the mustache area, so I ran back to macey's, and grabbed some yogurt and applied it to the burn right there in the parking lot! (This is where Jase lost his cool and started laughing his head off. I didn't mind though, I was so happy for the pain to stop)

The pictures are actually hilarious! ( I wasn't in the mood to smile) Jase took them during his little laughing spell... gotta say, though, the salsa was worth the pain.

I'm sitting here, after picking my husband up after work, and waiting for him to wake up from a nap and celebrate my birthday... It's times like these that can really get you thinking. Thinking about the last year.

Last year, on this exact same day, I was on my way to an ex-boyfriend's wedding reception, just so I could see some friends from the old college town.

Last year, on this exact same day, I saw my friend Tess at that same wedding reception, and invited her come down and visit me the next day.

Last year, on this exact same day, Tess told me about this boy who she had a crush on and wanted to see while she was down here... some guy named Jason or something.

Exactly a year ago from today, I started one of the most exciting journeys of my life... and while it's fun to look back and see what has changed, and who I haven't talked to, because my phone keeps deleting contact's numbers and I don't see my old girlies enough to get their numbers back...

I can't help but feel grateful for how much I've grown in this last year

and if year 23 helps me grow as much as 22 did,
I will be one lucky lady.

Waiting to go to the temple was the best decision I could have ever made.
It was amazing, and no feeling on this earth can compare to the feeling you get as you are sealed to the love of your life, not only for time, but even after that!

Jason is the most amazing man I know.
No one is quite as funny, optimistic, incredibly sweet, or thoughtful as this wonderful hunk of a man is! I feel like such a nutcase sometimes, and no one else can make me feel as sane as he does!

There is alot of good people watching to do in the cougar eat... especially around 7.
(The freshmen are all on on dates then) Hahahaha

it's been a little while...

APRIL 8th
I should be getting my official engagements done today, but we decided to think better of it due to the
snow.
We rescheduled for the 11th instead.
But since it's my day off, and I have a sister that was funny and took some pictures of J and I at the beach last week, I edited them, and they actually turned out pretty neat!

My real engagements are going to be legit, though!! So excited!

My wedding is going for a kind of garden party/kentucky derby feel, and Heather has a whole bunch of plans to make the pictures go with the theme- I am so so so excited!!!

Here's the jist of what I want to say on here today:
Being engaged doesn't suck.
Everyone says it does, but for the most part,
it doesn't!
I'm not saying there aren't hard times, but
Life is going to throw hard times at you no matter where you are!
I'd much much rather have the hard times being engaged than being single.
Just sayin'.
Having one other person to lean on makes it
that much better.

The stuff you've been waiting for...

So here it is-

The story.

The proposal.

(Oh, and P.S. If you didn't already know, I'm engaged!!)

It all starts with the fact that I work at Dukes Jewelers...

And the fact that I have a tendency to be a snoop at times.

haha.

Jason and my boss, Richard had to be pretty sneaky, so props to them both,

because I had no idea that it was coming so soon!

So this last saturday, Jason talked me into
going in to get my hair done, which took 5 hours!

Kinda frustrating ... but he had Plenty of time for him to go grab the ring without me suspecting! He also changed my oil, and filled up my gas tank to keep me off his scent ;) bah! I love him!

Anyway, so by the time that I was done with my appointment, it was about time to get ready for my ward's christmas party. It was up near Sundance Resort, and it was a dress up event- and anybody that know Jason and I know that we love to get dressed up!

Food was great, company was better, and Jason
realized that I had no idea that it was coming, and that tonight was the night! Problem was he had hidden the ring in a sock in the bottom of his backpack in the back of my car! haha. How was he going to get it out without me seeing him? He's a genius, because he just casually said "Hey, let me go grab the car and bring it up to the building so you don't have to walk as far." (He's always doing things like this, so I still didn't suspect)

We were planning on going up to logan to visit his family after the party, but Jason decided that we had plenty of time to stop by temple square on our way.

We walked around and looked at the pretty lights, and found this pretty little area where we were surrounded by lights and had an amazing view of the temple when...

All the lights turned off!

We decided that it was a good time to head to the car.

As we were walking to the car, Jason said "let's go to our street!"

** Flash Back** Back when we had first started dating, we found this street in salt lake that we just love! It's really cool because it has this hill that as you drive up, the spires of the temple appear, and as you keep driving, the entire temple appears, it's pretty neat!**

So we are in the car, coming up to the street, when we decide to walk up our street instead of drive.

This is the good part.

Jason, being the smart guy that he is, knew that I worked at a jewelry store, and would be looking for a small little box, so he put the ring box into a shoe-box sized trophy box that he had.

As we were getting out of the car, he sneakily grabbed the big box, (without me seeing it) and we proceeded to walk up the street.

Now, this street is surrounded by apartments... not the scene Jason was really thinking of to propose, and to make matters worse, there were these two lil old drunk ladies on the side of the sidewalk that counted our steps as we went by "2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Hooray!!" hahaha!

So, Jason at this point was getting pretty bummed... and right as he was beginning to think of options out of it... he spotted the cutest little white bench right off the sidewalk, with vines, and shrubbery all around it, a regular secret garden.

After walking a little bit farther, we turned around, and Jason bee-lined over to the bench and awkwardly sat me down, still trying to hide the box from me. As he sat down, however, the box kind of clunked, and in defeat, he tossed the box into my lap saying "I got you a present"

I still didn't have any idea that he had been carrying this thing the whole time, and to me it looked like he had pulled some random box out of the bushes... and for all I knew, there could have been something dead inside.

He told me to open the box, but I wouldn't... for obvious reasons... so he did it for me! The inside of the box was lined with black velvet, and it was dark out side, so I didn't see the ring box. I asked if it was a tiara box, and felt around inside.

Instantly, I thought of OC tanners, the jewelry store down the street, and was certain that this box had been stolen, and shoved in the bush, and began to consider calling the police to report it.

Jason on the other hand, was dying of anticipation, and grabbed the ring box out, and got down on one knee.

A little exasperated, he said Ashley, I love you! I want to marry you! Will you marry me?"

As he opened the box, I finally got the memo, started to cry, and said yes :)

I am so happy!! The most dominate feeling inside of me is just gratitude. I feel so honored to be the future wife of such an amazing son of god, and that we will be able to be sealed for time and all eternity.

Saturday Night Adventures

So Jason, a few years back, went to Brazil on an LDS mission.

Click here if you want to know more about our church, it is what brings light into my life.

Anyway, we went to SLC for a reunion with all of his old mission buddies!

It was so fun!

Afterwards, after we had already driven back home, we decided we were in the mood for an adventure.

And since Coney's was giving away custard for free, we decided to drive for another 15 min. to get some delicious goodness...

We had so much fun

And even got to meet the owner, Jay!

Next stop was the Target next door, we had a blast playing around with funny hats, looking at cute bikes, and.... Loving the christmas isle!!

We ended the night off watching a movie that J had never seen... Pink Panther.

Overall, a good night.

Ok, so it's been a pretty uneventful saturday. I finished reading Maya Angelou's Book All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes. Let me just tell you, one of the best reads of my LIFE! This work of art is a classic. She has a way of weaving the story so you feel like you're right there living it with her. This lady has had probably the most interesting life, with so many events that could pull her down- but she is an OX!! She pulls through all of them with a huge smile on her face, and it's off to the next adventure. This is a must read!! Just do it.

Also, I can't go without mentioning that I am halfway through reading Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead for the second time.

If you have a strong love for character development, and haven't read this book, do it!

I feel like I'm best friends with the oh so charming Dominique, and am half in love with the ever chiseled Roark... they all just jump right off the page! LOVE IT! It's pretty long, but the first time I read it, I finished it in a week. I'm trying to take it in more the second time, and I have got to say- if it's possible, I love it even more this time around!

Confidence: The Power in YOU!

OK, so this is my Platform for Miss Pioneer Valley/Miss Legacy! I love it so so much, so I thought I'd post it for all to read!

I'm sure you've heard the quote that Nelson Mandela used at his inaugural speech- I will enclose it here, just in case you haven't. When you read it, I want you to put yourself in the mindset of a young teen who is reading this for the first time- "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others." Powerful, isn't it? Some say it's a quote that's overly used... I say it's not used enough! As a fourteen year old teen who was reading this for the first time, it hit me harder than a ton of bricks! This quote became my new motto. I repeated it over and over and over in my head, until I had it memorized. Slowly, a confidence began to build inside of me. I was worth something. I have a purpose in life, and someday, I will make my own mark on the world! Soon, I was looking around me, and saw all of my self conscious peers. Remembering how it felt, I just wanted to reach out to them, and let them know that THEY were worth something too! They too, had the ability to put their mark on the world.

My platform starts where this story ends. I noticed that the quote was right! As I let my own light shine, I was giving others permission to do the same. I freely gave out compliments, and watched as people responded to them. Then BAM! It hit me. Confidence... it's a chain reaction. If you are confident, you are more apt to notice other's greatness, and want to let them know. This in turn helps their confidence to grow, allowing THEM to notice someone else!

Think about all of the problems we could potentially be without if everyone had enough self confidence to respect themselves and others! We could say goodbye to eating disorders, violence, suicide, bullying, substance abuse... and so much more! There is a great program in Utah that Mary Kay Huntsman fronts, it's called the Power in You. As I have researched this foundation, and gotten in touch with a few of it's leaders, I have been so impressed with their message to youth! They are spreading the word that we all have the power within us to become exactly who we want to be.

My plan is to work directly with the Power in You organization in spreading the word that we all have something inside of us that is worth preserving. Something that we all need to guard with all that we hold dear; Because nothing is worth sacrificing our self worth.

My Birthday was yesterday, yo. It was SO MUCH FUN! I was surrounded by my favorite people the whole day-which makes any day the best in my book. I went to lagoon with my sis, dad, and bro (who's ONE INCH from being taller than me... say What?? Got home and went to the White Owl for the first time... 21 and older, baby! On the way out, Ken and Vic lifted me up girls camp style while Kara, Sharice, Tom, and Heather all sang a birthday song to me! Then Ken and I ran through every single sprinkler at this random elementary school, and got SOAKED... so FUN! We then proceeded to watch 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' ... kara cried I think;) Overall, it was a pretty great Birthday! Here are some pics to go along with this post!

As per usually, it has taken me at least a month to get on here and write again... Don't judge. ;) I'm gonna post about boys... since it's like the only thing anyone has talked about to me in the past week! I found out yesterday that my mom had kissed the exact same amount of boys as I have at my age!!!- This was probably the best news of my life until she said, and I quote, "hmm.... well, when I was your age... let's see... I was engaged to your dad... so let me count" REALLY!! That's what happened! And now, I've officially one up'ed her, and while I am blissfully single- I'm feelin the pressure! It's real, and it's fun... but it's not real fun. <-line from Elizabeth Town- GREAT movie! Anyways, can't be a utah girl without commenting about single life utah girl style!

Tomorrow I'm gonna be photoshooted to be in the new USU admissions campaign... should be interesting- I'll let you know how it goes! What to wear....???

Pageant Season!

So.... my pageant is in less than three weeks!! I am getting so dang excited.... and stressed.... but mostly just excited! It's been crazy getting all the paperwork done, memorizing my talent, getting up to date on current events... it's been fun! One of my besties, Jenna, took my head shots and she did a really really great job, and it was a B to the LAST on the photoshoot!! My wardrobe is almost complete, just getting the finishing touches out of the way! My mom just barely put the last rhinestone on my dress- she's the greatest! There were hundreds!! School has been great- I can't wait until I'm officially a real doctor and can put all this stuff I'm learning to good use! I'm off! But I'm gonna put pictures from the photoshoot on here!!

Becoming Me!

I am becoming an expert in fixing problems all by myself!!! Seriously, this is a big deal!! Ask my parents, I've been calling them less and less for advice on how to fix everyday things, and am one step closer to being independent- FOR example: My keyboard. Right now, as I am typing this, my shift button on works half the time, and in order to put a space in between words, I have to push extra hard TWICE!!! Let me tell you how I got into this predicament- I have a makeshift desk for my computer, which is just an old wine rack that has the top part cut off! There isn't really a place to put my keyboard, so it keeps falling off my desk on to the floor! The last time this happened, ALL of the keys fell off! Now, ordinarily, this would be something that I would call my dad to help me.... or just mail him all the parts so he could fix it for me.... but not THIS time!! haha, No. I sat for a few hours, and fixed it all by myself! This was a huge feat! I am so proud to have the control button and the option button mixed up, and I am so happy to even have a spacebar ON my keyboard, that everytime I push it extra hard, I just think of how grateful I should be to be able to type right now!!

Life here is pretty much the same! I just do school and work and play and throw a little pageant in there here and there when I have time! My highlight of my month was prolly being able to go home this month! Here are a few pics from that trip- As much as I LOVE being on my own, I do miss my fam a ton!! But that's how life is! :D Peace out!

... It's already been more than a month since I got on here! I was going to be so faithful, too!! Dang it! Oops! :) Umm... to keep everything up to date- I broke my back the day before thanksgiving, and have just been plugging along since then in this SICK back brace! But Anyways, that takes care of the big stuff... Moving on!

I love the word lucky! It's prolly one of the happiest words out there- It's really hard to find a sentence with that word in it that isn't happy! You know that feeling when you walk out of a class right after you take a test, and you KNOW you did absolutely fabulous!? I LOVE IT!!! Seriously! It's almost as good as winning a really really close basketball game!

Every time I don't feel like studying, I have to remind myself why I'm up here at school- and I'm writing that reason down on here, so that every time I look on here, and read this blog, I'll be reminded. School for me is more like a responsibility than anything else. What I learn here will affect more than just me. I wouldn't like a doctor who aced all his easy classes, but when it came to the harder ones, he barely got by with a C by cramming before his tests! I'm up here to learn, meet new people, and get involved, not to earn grades! Geez! That sounds way serious, but really, what I learn up here will affect more than just my career, it'll affect my future family, neighbors, and community! Wow!!

That's why I love school!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH!! and P.S. I got a 93% on my test today!!! YEESSSSSS!!

I just got done watching the news with my roommates, and I have gotta say that i don't think I've felt so depressed in my life!! As I was watching I just kept getting this sinking feeling as they jumped from our economy dying a horrible death to the hurricane in Texas- all while police sirens were going off in the background of the news anchor!! So I left the room because I just couldn't take it anymore!! I came to my room to study, but instead, I found myself looking for good news online... and FOUND IT!!!! :D K, listen to this: There are websites CHALK FULL of just good news!!!! Reflections of Christ

So on my campus there's an exhibit of pictures showing a progression of major events in Christ's life! I went and saw it today, and it was freaking awesome!! I'll post the link to the website on the blog... seriously, it was the absolute coolest exhibit I've ever seen... even though i haven't seen a lot of them, this one beats all! Basically, it's a collection of pictures Mark Mabry took of people posing as christ at different stages of his life. The second you walk into the room, peace instantly surrounds you, it's the greatest feeling in the world- and I won't lie, I teared up a little bit! The collection has been on tour, and will be over in salt lake during the LDS General Conference. Boy, I really can't say enough good about it! It rocks- check it out!! It's called the Reflections of Christ by Mark Mabry.
